The Water Tribune

The Water Tribune

1. Introduction

The Water Tribune is the school of thought which has been created, parallel to the visual, cultural and leisure elements of the Expo in response to the requirements of an International Exposition which stems from the will to stimulate reflection, debate and a search for solutions in relation to water and sustainability. To compile and synthesize universal knowledge in order to contribute to the reorientation and improvement of the current models and systems in place regarding water and sustainable development for the 21st century, from the perspective of innovation. This objective will be attained through the development of a series of activities (Themed weeks, Agora, Events and Parallel Meetings) and the participation of the most relevant international players from today’s water scene.

The mission of the Water Platform, the intellectual vehicle for Expo Zaragoza 2008, points toward a meeting of minds regarding the most compelling issues of water and sustainable development, for debate, conciliation, summary, organisation, distillation, edition, publication and diffusion.
The legacy of the Water Tribune, as described in the Zaragoza Charter, will contribute to the positioning of Zaragoza as a world authority on water-related issues, able to offer its experience in order to benefit the Mediterranean Basin and the Latin American countries.

2. The Thematic Weeks

The Water Tribune, whose role it is to provide the intellectual foundations for Expo Zaragoza 2008 will provide a platform for more than 2000 international experts in the field of water, over ten Themed Weeks divided into 25 major themes. Scientists, technicians, administrators and users, entrepreneurs, politicians, philosophers, academics, researchers, communicators, intellectuals and students will put forward their proposals for public policies, some of which will be new, and others which will recall the valuable knowledge gained in the past.

Climate change, the geopolitics of water, health and education will all be elements which are present in the Themed Weeks. This is not only meant for debate, but also as a vehicle to find solutions to the new paradigm for water in the 21st Century. The work sessions, in which experts and members of the public will participate, will take place from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm in the Water Tribune Pavilion. In the final days of Expo Zaragoza 2008, and as a culmination to the Themed Weeks, the International Symposium on Water and Sustainable Development will take place on 11th September. This event will synthesize and bring coherence and meaning to the results and proposals which will be fully documented and publicly announced at the reading of the Zaragoza Charter.
The Themed Weeks will be broadcast to the five continents, in collaboration with the World Bank, through several videoconference sessions which will allow the dialogue on water to be carried beyond the banks of the River Ebro.

The Ágora is a space within the Water Tribune devoted to citizenship participation. It offers a rich and plural schedule which includes scientists, politicians, communicators and artists. The visitors to the exhibition will have access to the world of water within a context in which their comments, doubts, thoughts or criticisms will constitute the central axis of the sessions.
With the aid of state-of-the-art technologies, the virtual visitors will have direct access, in real time, to the development of the sessions and their contributions will also be collected and discussed during the sessions.

El hombre y el agua/ Serrat

Si el hombre es un gesto
el agua es la historia.

Si el hombre es un sueño
el agua es el rumbo.

Si el hombre es un pueblo
el agua es el mundo.

Si el hombre es recuerdo
el agua es memoria.

Si el hombre está vivo
el agua es la vida.

Si el hombre es un niño
el agua es París.

Si el hombre la pisa
el agua salpica.

Cuídala
como cuida ella de ti.

Brinca, moja, vuela, lava,
agua que vienes y vas.
Río, espuma, lluvia, niebla,
nube, fuente, hielo, mar.

Agua, barro en el camino,
agua que esculpes paisajes,
agua que mueves molinos.
¡Ay agua!, que me da sed nombrarte,
agua que le puedes al fuego,
agua que agujereas la piedra,
agua que estás en los cielos
como en la tierra.

Brinca, moja, vuela, lava,
agua que vienes y vas.
Río, espuma, lluvia, niebla,
nube, fuente, hielo, mar...

Some people believe God created you and me.
Others think you and me just exist.
One thing is certain: both of us can feel.

There are many reasons why you deserve respect. One of them is because you´ve got skin, blood...life.

Other is because there is someone who worries about you.

And other is because you exist, and existence is precious.

Continuará

(...) No sigas el guión; haz tu guión...

Michael Jackson ~ The Man In The Mirror Download: click

I'm Gonna Make A Change,
For Once In My Life

It's Gonna Feel Real Good,
Gonna Make A Difference

Gonna Make It Right . . .

As I, Turn Up The Collar
On My
Favourite Winter Coat
This Wind Is Blowin' My Mind

I See The Kids In The Street,

With Not Enough To Eat

Who Am I, To Be Blind?

Pretending Not To See
Their Needs
A Summer's Disregard,

A Broken Bottle Top

And A One Man's Soul

They Follow Each Other On
The Wind Ya' Know
'Cause They Got Nowhere
To Go

That's Why I Want You To
Know

I'm Starting With The Man In
The Mirror
I'm Asking Him To Change His Ways
And No Message Could Have
Been Any Clearer
If You Wanna Make The World
A Better Place
(If You Wanna Make The World A Better Place)
Take A Look At Yourself, And
Then Make A Change
(Take A Look At Yourself, And Then Make A Change)
(Na Na Na, Na Na Na, Na Na, Na Nah)

I've Been A Victim Of A Selfish Kind Of Love
It's Time That I Realize

That There Are Some With No
Home,
Not A Nickel To Loan
Could It Be Really Me,
Pretending That They're Not Alone?
A Willow Deeply Scarred,
Somebody's Broken Heart
And A Washed-Out Dream
(Washed-Out Dream)
They Follow The Pattern Of
The Wind,
Ya' See
Cause
They Got No Place
To Be
That's Why I'm Starting With
Me (Starting With Me!)
I'm Starting With The Man In
The Mirror (Ooh!)
I'm Asking Him To Change His Ways (Ooh!)
And No Message Could Have Been Any Clearer
If You Wanna Make The World
A Better Place
(If You Wanna Make The
World A Better Place)
Take A Look At Yourself And
Then Make A Change

domingo

Qué importa si nacieron con siglos de diferencia ... Qué más da si uno en India y otro en Belén; si uno nació en Guadalajara y el otro en Groenlandia...qué diferencia - si dejas las formas y la lógica y te centras en el mensaje- hay entre lo que dice el uno y el otro? Ambos me han ayudado en los momentos malos;

Writing ...

(Music: Debussy's Clair de Lune, if you don't have your own handy at the moment...)

Writing days ...

I am adopting writing as a hobby. I don't know if I have ever written anything that is worth showing to someone...Perhaps you don't know until you try. Anyway writing, much like reading, has been a helping hand at hard times and has recently become a need to me. It is a shelter and a reliable source for motivation when I can't find other sources around.

(I am an absolute beginner, but) it doesn't take a long time to realize how exciting it can be waiting for inspiration and, on the other hand, how empty you can feel when it doesn't come.

Inspiration seems to be something interesting. Sometimes it is related to calm, sometimes to stress.
Sometimes it comes on gloomy days, some times it's impossible to write a word if you don't whip all your gloom away first.

You may wait for a long time without coming across a single idea...or you may find yourself exposed to a rain of interesting topics, scenes, etc. that hit you while queing in the supermarket, driving or playing tennis, for instance.

There is, however, a situation where I can almost be sure that inspiration will come: traveling.
There are many kinds of travels; physical journeys are only one of them. But this one greatly helps inspiration coming.
Finding myself on a plane, on a train, on a bus...with several hours ahead available to fill with something...Watching the landscapes, the cloudscapes with their mysterious drawings...feeling how the world moves away from you, just to find, eventually, that it remains in the same place where you left it...

That's why I don't like going anywhere without a pencil and a piece of paper...

Last time, I took two of my favourite books with me. Both are about traveling, describe long and exciting trips. One of them involving physical travels too. This time I opened the other one around the middle pages. The main character was visiting places I had been to just days before. It was like reading my travel diary. The places were not physical; they were cognitive places, emotional landscapes. I could have written something very similar (if I had had the skills necessary). And I bet this story's author has never visited the physical places I have; I will probably never walk along the streets, the parks, the concert halls where (s)he came across these ideas...Or maybe I will, if I take a cultural trip or something ...But, even in those places, I won't necessarily get an inspiration so amazingly similar that I have had this time. Indeed, I could have arrived to the same place as any other author or any other person wherever, even if we have grown up in totally different cultures.

Muses seem to travel chaotically across space-time and their favourite play seems to be establishing connections between places and spaces light-years away. Such connections help us finding the things that are, in the end, common to all of us...
